Taking Poker Seriously and Still Having Fun
Anyone can learn to play poker; anyone can read something about it and play a few hands.
However, there is a big difference between a seasoned poker player and a serious poker player.
A serious kind of poker player means that the player is willing to spend more time in learning the game, learn different strategies and skills and spend more time, effort and money on the game.
Being good at poker and be able to beat poker will take a lot of time and money. Yes, you can be a fast learner in the game but that is a desperate move, it will take more than being a fast learner. There are skills and strategies that you cannot master in just a few rounds of poker.
Nevertheless, there are people that we know who have natural talent when it comes to playing poker but they are very few unlike the rest of us that needs a lot of understanding and mastering about this complex game.
Your willingness to study more books and other reading materials is definitely the key to becoming a successful poker player.
Analyzing your hands that have already been played or the hands that were played by other players can also help you acquire more knowledge about the game. You should not take this for granted rather you should plan for it as well.
Many would think that the game of poker is easy money but you should stop and think again. Think how come not everybody is playing poker to get rich? That's because poker is not easy money.
After learning the basics of poker and a few strategies and skills you should now analyze where you want to go from there. What do you actually want to achieve from the game?
You may not realize it now, but this is an important question that you should ponder. At the beginning of your learning you also should set your goals.
If your goal is like winning a few thousand dollars from poker then you do not have to dig in deeply into planning about poker strategies. All you have to do is play the game.
However, a serious poker player's goal is far beyond just winning a few dollars from poker. They want poker to take them as far as the game can take them.
If at this point you haven't figured out what your goals are then you should follow these simple steps:
1. Read the Psychology of Poker, this book is written by Dr. Alan Schoonmaker. This book motivates poker players. You will be able to reflect on your self the things you really want to achieve in playing poker.
2. Second is constructing your plan. Planning can give you a purpose and a sense of discipline to think straight. But in planning, make sure that your plan is realistic not just idealistic.
